By the grace of God, we are free with a freedom given to us by a power greater than our failing governments and disgraced leaders.
Romans 13 1-7 makes it abundantly clear that we as Children of God are to follow the law of the land and to obey our government. Here in the west, we are very good at this. Not because we are great Christians but because our countries were originally built on the law of God as written in the Bible. What we are not very good at is knowing when to disobey our government.
In Acts 5 27-29 God makes it clear that you are only to obey as long as the laws and governments are in line with the Bible. Western Christians have clearly had a much more difficult time with this verse.
Our government and in turn, our laws have fallen to an increasingly sinful and troubled world yet, Christians have remained quiet, stagnant and unchanged by this fact. As though being polite and "getting along" were more important to the church than the salvation of souls.
Recently in the U.K. a woman was arrested for silently praying across the street from an abortion clinic.
In Scotland, it was recently admitted that new legislation would make it a crime to stand in the window in your own home and pray, if anyone passed by on the street. All of this while it is a frequent site to see Muslims in western countries, shutting down entire neighborhoods to spread their prayer mats on the street, kneel and pray to Allah.
So then why is one ok and the other, a crime? It is because the anti-biblical, anti-Christ movement happening in the world is demonic in it's nature. Demonic spirits know that the God of the Bible is the one and only real God and therefore is the only threat to their evil agenda. Islam is the spirit of Satan and is working in tandem with the evils of our government and world leaders. As is every religionthat contradicts the Bible. Not at a conscious level but within the spiritual war that is occurring all around us.
So it is obvious to me that our governing entities around the Western world are acting, very much, outside the teachings of the Bible and are therefore forcing Christians into acts of defiance against them. The question is, how far do we take this defiance?
Put simply, we should refuse to abide by any and all laws that fly in the face of God's law, however, I believe we should take into consideration, what losses will cause in the long term. For example, if a church pastor were to defy these prayer laws and get locked up, it would cause the people of his church to lack teaching during a vital time. That may or may not be a worth while sacrifice but that's a decision that should be made with the input of those who would be affected.
The same is true with you and your family. We should all stand against the anti Christian rhetoric and laws of our time but if that stand takes you from your kids or spouse, that needs to be considered. It does us no good to weaken our families and churches to take a stand for now.
Having said all that, I believe we Western Christians are doing far too little to fly in the face of this trend. I believe we are too comfortable, too quiet, too unwilling to make waves.
When Jesus saw business being conducted within the temple he became angry and flipped tables. I believe it's a time in our world where Christians need to begin to flip some metaphorical tables.
We need to be strong, bold and unafraid. We need to make decisions as God's representatives here on earth and show this dark world that we are fearless, servants of God who know without a shadow of a doubt that we have already won!
We are the ones that every soul on earth wants to be, whether they know it yet or not. By the grace of God, we are free with a freedom given to us by a power greater than our failing governments and disgraced leaders. We will pray, we will read God's word, we will stand against all law that flies in the face of the only law that matters. God's law.
