The Bible gives a hierarchy of the family. God, husband, wife then kids.
If you're unfortunate enough to be trying to navigate the dating world these days, I'm sure you've discovered what most have... It's a nightmare.
This world is so far removed from the teachings of the Bible that the foundation of relationship is completely lost.
The Bible lays out exactly how a relationship should play out but the vast majority of them are built on faulty, man made ideals and because of this, they are failing.
There is one biblical rule of relationship that very few are aware of and the vast majority of women are horrified by these days.
The Bible gives a hierarchy of the family. God, husband, wife then kids. This means that in a family dynamic, your spouse comes before your children. In a world where there are more single mothers than intact families, that probably seems wrong to many, especially mothers but it's actually very important for children.
It is vital for children to see their parents modeling a healthy relationship for them. It creates a sense of security for them and teaches them what it means to dedicate yourself to another person.
When I was a teenager I got into a very heated argument with my mom. At some point I raised my fists like I was going to hit her and my dad flew at me out of nowhere and pinned me against the wall by my throat. He didn't hurt me but he held eye contact long enough to make me understand that he will not let anyone, even me, hurt his queen. It was one of the best lessons I ever learned and didn't require a word.
As parents, we love our kids. Infact, it's shocking how much we love our kids but part of loving them, is understanding that we can't let that overwhelming love prevent us from preparing them for the future. One of the best ways to prepare them, is to show them what it's like to be fully dedicated to the person you vowed to love forever.
It's difficult, especially for mothers, to not over coddle and protect our children but part of protecting is preparing them for the future and setting them up to understand what a good and Godly relationship looks like. It's a major factor in their future success.
